Frequently Asked Questions
We have tried to answer as many questions you might have regarding the demo and the full game below. Still have questions? Feel free to reach out to us at contact@newdawn.games or on our socials listed at the bottom of the page!
Game and release
What version of Rayman 2 will this remake be based on?
We’re working hard to study each version of the game and bring the best aspects of each version to our game. We want the experience to be the best for new and returning players alike!
Is this going to be a remaster of the original game, or a full remake and reimagining?
Our version of Rayman 2 will be a complete reimagining of the original game, featuring expanded levels and story but keeping the base and tone of the original story and gameplay.
Will the combat be improved from the original?
The combat is being reworked to remain faithful to the original combat mechanics, while also being more modern and fluid to give the best combat experience possible.
Will the game have a new story?
The story will be the same as the original, with some added context, lines, and background information to make it more enjoyable for players.
Which version of the hub level will be in this remake?
We will be creating our own version of the hunlevel with elements from each version of the game. We promise you’ll love it!
Is the game going to be fully compatible with a gamepad?
We have been implementing full controller support in the game from the start.
Is the game going to be released on Steam or the Epic Games Store?
The demo is available for download at GameJolt. Because our game is a fan remake, we can’t release our game on official stores at this point.
Is the game going to be released on other platforms?
At the moment we are intending to release the game on PCs with Windows. Performance wise we intend the game to be able to be run on a Steam Deck using the Proton compatibility layer. There are currently no plans to release the game on other platforms or consoles.
Is the full release gonna be purchasable or is it going to be free?
The full release of the game will be free to download.
Will the game have modding support?
Right now, we’re focused mainly on just developing the game and getting it into a releasable state before anything else. If it’s not too much of a technical lift to support modding, we will definitely look into releasing modding tools for the community to add onto the game and make more content with it, so we don’t plan on putting any blockers in to deter modders. It’s a game made for the community, so we want to contribute as much as we can.
Will the game include a free beach ball?
No.
Demo
Why is my game running slowly?
We have spent a lot of time making sure that the game is in a playable state and haven’t tested it intensely performance wise yet. We are planning to make performance a priority in the next state of development. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Why does the demo only contain the Fairy Glade?
Building levels and systems takes time, especially in a team that runs on volunteers. We wanted to give you a vertical slice of the full game as early as possible, and we think just the Fairy Glade gives a nice overview of what we are planning for the full game.
Will all cutscenes be in the form of animatics?
We are planning in-game cutscenes for all of them. The animatic in the demo was made as a replacement for the lack of animations and will stay as an extra in the full game.
Why is the game not using the music from the original game?
Because our game is a reimagining of the original game, we have devised a new dynamic music system that is incompatible with the music used in the original game. Because all art assets are also made anew, we decided that an all-new soundtrack would also be fitting for the reimagined version.
Will there be a way to play the Raymanian gibberish voice lines in the game?
No, we are currently going to be only supporting English voice acting for accessibility and convenience.
Why doesn’t my native language appear in the settings menu?
So far we have translated the game in 13 widely spoken languages, which are: Dutch, English, Danish, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Ukrainian. We are dependent on volunteers to help us translate the game, and for your language we haven’t found anyone yet. You are welcome to join our team to help out with a language that is not covered yet, see https://newdawn.games/join/ for information on how to reach out to us. Note that we are not able to accept applications for languages that are already covered in the game.
Are you planning to update the demo with new levels when you finish them?
Because the demo acts as a vertical slice, we are not planning to update the demo with new content at this point, aside from critical bug fixes.
